The 2014 season of sunsets and other notables for Holmes National Golf Course

The pros aren’t above a good practical joke at Shootout / El caddie de Billy Horschel objeto de la broma de Poulter

In the opening round of the 2014 Franklin Templeton Shootout, Billy Horschel’s caddy noticed his bag getting heavier as the round progressed.

Gwladys Nocera wins Hero Women’s Indian Open

Gwladys Nocera from France collected her first title of the 2014 season with a dominant display in the Hero Women’s Indian Open.

With rounds of 64, 72 and 72, she finished with an 11 under par total of 208 at Delhi Golf Club, five strokes clear of three other players.

England’s Hannah Burke, Fabienne In-Albon from Switzerland and Korean Hyeon Seo Kang tied for second on six under, while India’s Vaishavi Sinha double bogeyed the 18th to drop into solo fifth place.

Nocera began the final round with a two stroke advantage over Sinha and birdied the second to move three ahead, before a three-putt bogey on the fifth.

After another bogey on the ninth, where her second shot found the bunker, Nocera was two clear at the turn. With birdies on 11 and 12, she went three clear of Sinha and then a final birdie on the short 17th gave her a four stroke lead with a hole to play.

After making a par on 18, she sealed her 13th Ladies European Tour victory and her second Indian title, after she won the EMAAR-MGF Ladies Masters at Eagleton Golf Resort in Bangalore in 2007.

With her winnings of €36,478, she is now back in the hunt to take the order of merit for a second time, after last winning the title in 2008.

Padraig Harrington wins the BANK BRI Indonesia Open

Padraig Harrington ended a four-year victory drought with a two-shot win over Thailand's Thanyakon Khrongpha at the Indonesia Open.

The triple major champion had not won a full field tournament since lifting the 2010 Johor Open title on the Asian Tour but a level-par 71 in his final round was enough for him to end that wait.

Harrington had taken a four-shot lead into the final day's play but a double-bogey by the Irishman on the seventh hole handed Khrongpha the initiative.

Harrington fought back to level the score before Khrongpha scuppered his chances by finding water on the 18th hole. "I had a bad break on the 18th hole when I hit my tee shot and it rolled to the edge of the hazard," Harrington told reporters after the round.

"I was about to chip my ball sideways to the fairway but when Thanyakon hit it into the water, there was no point to take a chance. So I went back to the fairway and hit my six iron for my best shot of the week."

Harrington said he hoped the win would spur a return to winning ways.

"Winning is a good habit to have. It gives you a lot of confidence and I need that confidence," the world number 385 said.

"I didn't start too well but I came through and I got the win. This win brings a lot of confidence to my game and hopefully it will show up next year."

Jordan Spieth wins the Emirates Australian Open

Jordan Spieth used a course-record 8-under 63 Sunday to separate himself from the pack at The Australian Golf Club and win the Emirates Australian Open by six shots.

"It's the best round I have ever played, especially considering the conditions," Spieth told the Associated Press. "It was just kind of one of those rounds when you're in the zone and you're not sure what you're at. It's nice that it came on a Sunday.

"Being able to spread out from the field was a pretty awesome experience. I didn't think the round was out there but the putts just kept going in. Boy, we had a good time out there today."

Spieth, who finished at 13 under in Sydney, entered Sunday's final round tied for the lead at 5 under with Australians Greg Chalmers and Brett Rumford.

Spieth, 21, shot the best round of the day by four strokes, going bogey-free for his second professional win. He became the first American to win the event since Brad Faxon in 1993. His round came as a record for the course that was recently redone by Jack Nicklaus. It was being played as a par 71 for the first time in a professional event.

Rod Pampling carded a 3-under 68, taking second at 7 under. He was followed by 54-hole co-leaders Rumford and Chalmers and 6 under and 5 under, respectively. Adam Scott, the native Australian and Masters champion, rounded out the top five at 4 under after shooting even par on Sunday. Scott struggled early, making bogey and double bogey on holes four and five. he would go on to make three bogeys and a double on the day.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy competed in the event and was in contention through two rounds, but a third-round 5-over 76 put him out of the race. He shot one over Sunday and finished T-15 at 2 over.
